Travel directions to Columbia
BY AIR:
Three international airports with convenient bus and taxi connections,
serve New York City. From John F. Kennedy Airport and LaGuardia Airport,
economical bus service (Carey bus) to Grand Central Terminal and various
Manhattan hotels is available. Also from LaFuardia Airport, there is a
more direct bus service (M60) to West 116th Street and Broadway. From
Neward Airport, there is New Jersey Transit bus service to the Port
Authority Bus Terminal.
Although New York City cabs operate on mileage meters, cab fares can vary
with traffic conditions. The average one-way fare from John F. Kennedy
Airport is about $35.00, one-way from LaGuardia Airport is about $20.00.
Designated airport passenger pick-up locations usually have cab dispatchers
available to assist you.
BY SUBWAY:
Columbia University lies on the Broadway line of the New York City transit
system, the IRT Broadway LOCAL. The #1 or #9 subway trains stop at
Broadway and W. 116th Street, a short walk from the Schapiro Research
Building. There are subway entrances at Penn Station and the Port
Authority Bus Terminal. From Grand Central Station, the Shuttle (S) goes
to "Times Square" 42nd Street, offering access to the #1 and #9 IRT
Broadway Local trains going uptown.
At 116th Street and Broadway, you will be at the main gate of Columbia
University. Go through the gate and walk straight ahead up College Walk
about 30 feet till you come to a flight of stone steps on your left. Go up
the steps and continue straight ahead till you come to the extreme north
end of campus. The Schapiro Research Building is the last building at the
north end of campus located directly behind Uris Hall and in between the
Mudd and Pupin Buildings.
BY CAR:
The Henry Hudson Parkway/West Side Highway in New York City runs parallel
to the Hudson River and offers convenient access to Columbia University.
The highway can be reached from most of the main routes entering New York
City. The nearest major highway link to it is Interstate Highway 95
(I-95).
Driving north or south on The Henry Hudson Parkway/West Side Highway, exit
at 95th Street. At the first traffic light, turn north (left) onto
Riverside Drive; at West 120th Street, turn east (right) crossing two
streets (Claremont Avenue and Broadway) to reach the street entrance to the
Schapiro Research Building, 530 W. 120th Street, between Broadway and
Amsterdam Avenue.
It is advised that you arrange for parking at one of the neighborhood
garages.
